HƯỚNG DẪN VIẾT BÀI

Two road tunnels

1. Giải thích đề

Sơ đồ so sánh hai đường hầm (Tunnel A và Tunnel B) về:

thời gian xây dựng
chi phí
cấu trúc và điều kiện địa chất

→ Dạng: comparison (diagram \+ data)

2. Introduction (paraphrase)

Giữ:

two road tunnels

Dùng:

shows → compares / illustrates
information → details

Ví dụ:

The diagram compares two road tunnels in terms of their construction, cost and structural features.

→ Key idea:

Tunnel B \= more complex \+ more expensive
Tunnel A \= simpler \+ cheaper

4. Chia BODY

BODY 1 – Tunnel A

Được xây từ 1986–1998
Chi phí: $555 million
Đặc điểm:

→ nằm dưới lớp cát (sand)

→ độ sâu khoảng 1.5 metres

→ có 2 làn xe (2 tunnels/lanes)

Nhận xét:

→ thiết kế đơn giản hơn do điều kiện địa chất dễ xử lý

BODY 2 – Tunnel B

Xây muộn hơn: 2002–2006
Chi phí: $1.1 billion (gấp đôi Tunnel A)
Đặc điểm:

→ nằm dưới lớp stone and clay

→ sâu hơn: 2.5 metres

→ có 3 làn xe

Nhận xét:

→ cần cấu trúc lớn hơn và chắc chắn hơn

→ chi phí cao hơn do điều kiện xây dựng phức tạp

5. Gợi ý từ vựng

be constructed / built → được xây dựng
run through → chạy qua
be located beneath → nằm dưới
consist of → bao gồm
be deeper than → sâu hơn
cost significantly more → đắt hơn đáng kể
geological conditions → điều kiện địa chất

The diagrams compare two road tunnels, labelled A and B, in terms of their structure, construction period and cost.

Overall, while both tunnels are the same length, Tunnel B is deeper, more expensive and was built later than Tunnel A. In addition, the two tunnels differ in the type of ground they pass through and their internal design.

Tunnel A was constructed between 1986 and 1998 at a cost of $555 million. It runs through sand and has a depth of 1.5 metres. The tunnel is 3.6 kilometres long and consists of two separate tubes, each carrying traffic in a single direction.

By contrast, Tunnel B was built more recently, from 2002 to 2006, and required a significantly higher investment of $1.1 billion. Although it has the same length of 3.6 kilometres, it is deeper at 2.5 metres and passes through stone and clay, which likely contributed to the higher cost. Unlike Tunnel A, it features a wider structure that can accommodate more lanes of traffic within each tunnel.
