3. Overview (ý chính)

Quy trình gồm 2 giai đoạn chính:

→ ban ngày (generate electricity)

→ ban đêm (pump water back)

Nước di chuyển giữa:

→ high-level reservoir và low-level reservoir

→ Key idea:

Đây là chu trình khép kín (cyclical process)
Ban ngày tạo điện, ban đêm tái sử dụng nước

4. Chia BODY

BODY 1 – Ban ngày (electricity generation)

Ban ngày:

→ intake mở

Nước từ high-level reservoir:

→ chảy xuống qua đường ống

Sau đó:

→ làm quay reversible turbines

Turbines:

5. Gợi ý từ vựng

reservoir → hồ chứa
dam → đập nước
intake → cửa lấy nước
flow → dòng chảy
generate electricity → tạo điện
reversible turbines → tua-bin hai chiều
pump water back → bơm nước ngược lại
national grid → lưới điện quốc gia
operate → vận hành

The diagram illustrates how a hydroelectric power station operates, showing the different processes that occur during the day and at night.

Overall, electricity is generated in the daytime by releasing water from a high-level reservoir to drive turbines, whereas at night the process is reversed, with water being pumped back up for reuse.

During the day, water stored behind a dam in a high-level reservoir is released through an intake, which is open at this time. The water flows downhill through a pipe and spins reversible turbines located in the power station. These turbines drive a generator, producing electricity that is transmitted via power lines to the national grid. After passing through the turbines, the water is discharged into a low-level reservoir.

At night, when electricity demand is lower, the intake is closed and the turbines operate in reverse. Using electricity from the grid, they pump water from the low-level reservoir back up to the high-level reservoir through the same pipe. This allows the water to be stored and reused for electricity generation the following day.
