The line graph and table compare the proportion of full-time workers holding a university degree and the average salaries of maths graduates and other graduates between 2004 and 2012.

Overall, maths graduates consistently had higher employment rates than other graduates throughout the period, although both groups followed a similar trend of rising and then falling. In terms of income, salaries increased steadily for both groups, with maths graduates earning more, particularly after 2008.

Looking first at employment, around 78% of maths graduates were in full-time work in 2004, compared to approximately 63% of other graduates. Both figures rose to a peak in 2006, reaching about 90% and just over 80% respectively. In 2008, the proportions remained high, at roughly 88% for maths graduates and 86% for others. However, both groups then experienced a decline, falling to around 82% and 75% in 2010, before dropping further to approximately 80% and 63% by 2012.

Turning to salaries, both groups earned the same average income in 2004 and 2006, at $41,000 and $43,000 respectively. From 2008 onwards, a clear gap emerged. Maths graduates saw a sharp increase to $50,000 in 2008, rising further to $51,000 in 2010 and $56,000 in 2012. In contrast, other graduates experienced more moderate growth, with salaries increasing from $45,000 in 2008 to $47,000 in 2010 and reaching $51,000 by the end of the period.
