The maps illustrate the development of the area around Dalton between 1815 and 2015\.

Overall, the area experienced substantial urbanisation, with farmland and forest replaced by housing, infrastructure, and public facilities.

In 1815, the landscape was largely rural. Dalton village was located in the northeast, surrounded by a small number of houses. To the west, Dalton Forest covered a large area, while Hall Farm lay near the centre. A ford crossed the river in the southwest, and a bridleway ran along the southern side of the River Dal. Dalton Hall was situated to the east of the village.

By 2015, the area had been transformed into a more developed town. The forest and farm had disappeared, making way for an industrial zone in the west and expanded residential areas across the map. A bridge replaced the ford, improving access across the river. New public facilities were introduced, including a school near the centre and a hospital in the northwest. In the southeast, a hotel was built close to Dalton Hall, while an airport was constructed along the southern edge of the river.
