The maps illustrate how a zoo in Australia has changed from 1960 to the present day.

Overall, the zoo has been modernised with improved transport access and reorganisation of animal areas. Several new visitor facilities have been introduced, while some older sections have been removed or replaced.

In 1960, the zoo had a relatively simple layout. On the western side, there were areas for African animals and Australian animals. To the east, visitors could see birds, chimpanzees, and a seal show. A picnic area was located in the far east, and a gift shop stood near the centre. The site was connected by a network of walking paths, but there was no formal entrance shown.

At present, the zoo has been significantly upgraded. A main entrance has been added in the south, along with a ferry access point at the northern harbour. A cable car now runs across the eastern side of the zoo, providing an additional transport option for visitors.

In terms of animal exhibits, the birds and chimpanzee sections have been removed and replaced by a larger “wild animals” area in the west. The African and Australian animal zones remain but have been repositioned slightly. The seal show is still present, although it is now located closer to the centre.

Visitor amenities have also been enhanced. The gift shop remains but is more centrally positioned, and the picnic area continues to occupy the eastern side. Overall, the zoo has become more accessible and better organised for visitors.
